8.5 Low Dispersion Extraction Techniques

The IUEDAC offers two techniques for re-extracting the slit-integrated spectrum from the spatially resolved spectral data. The first of these is identical to the standard IUESIPS rectangular extraction slit technique, except that the user is free to specify the width of the slit, and the centroid line for the slit (see Section 8.5.2). The second technique, which is most useful for reducing the apparent noise in faint spectra, uses a Gaussian extraction slit at each wavelength which more accurately accounts for the shape of the low dispersion spectrum (see Section 8.5.3).
