The HST Data Archive

Observation Log (OMS) Files
in the HST Archive

Observation Log files for each science dataset taken after Oct 20, 1994 have been produced in the pipeline and written to the HST archive. The Observation Log files contain a specialized set of pointing and engineering data associated with each science exposure (including the jitter information).

You can retrieve Observation Log Files using the "Dataset Name" search screen in StarView. Enter the first 8 characters of your science dataset followed by a 'J' in the "Dataset Name" field (e.g., for science dataset F24P0201M enter F24P0201J) and begin the search. Once you have marked the dataset for retrieval and passed through to the "Retrieval Default Specification" screen you will need to choose the [Override Default Options] button and enter "OMS" into the archive class field. Then just press [submit request] to continue with the request.

Remember, Observation Log Files are available only for data taken after Oct 20, 1994.

By January, you will be able to retrieve these files by first marking the science dataset in StarView (say on the or screens) and then selecting the Observation Log Files option on the archive retrieval screen.

A document describing the contents and use of the OMS files is available.

For more information, about retrieving OMS files, contact the Archive Hotseat, archive@stsci.edu, (410) 338-4547.
