Extended downtime notice

Due to a planned outage on Friday, April 12th starting at noon through Sunday, April 14th, access to this site will be unavailable during this time. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Available Line Lists

This page lists the currently available line lists that may be overplotted on displayed spectral plots. Only those overlapping in wavelength with the initially displayed spectrum however will appear as options on the plot page. Click here for the general plotting information.

VPFIT - The first list shows line libraries distributed with the Voigt Profile Fitting software (VPFIT) by R. F. Carswell, J. K. Webb and others. They are organized by element and ionization level although some are a mix as noted. They will appear on every plot, although some only include a couple lines.

UV-bright AGNs - There are about 70 line lists available for UV_bright AGNs that were created for a survey of the low-redshift intergalactic medium using HST/COS spectra. They were provided in the IGM HLSP by Danforth et al. If a spectrum for one of the 70 AGNs is plotted and the wavelength ranges overlap, the line library will automatically appear at the top of the line library list. Note the target name from the search results must be identical to that extracted from the file headers. Aliases are not considered a match.

MUSCLES - includes multi-telescope, multi-wavelength spectra of low-mass stars hosting exoplanets and associated with HST program 13650. The line library is available for the seven spectra from this project. It is not currently available for other spectra.

Notes:

  • - Low resolution spectra may cause line IDs to overlap. Zooming in may help separate them.
  • - The available line lists are based on the spectral range of the initial plotted spectrum. Line IDs may not be visible after zooming in to a smaller spectral region.
  • - When spectra from multiple targets are plotted, the target name from the first spectrum is used for deciding if a Danforth line list should be listed.
