CEERS NIRCam Mosaic
This full CEERS color mosaic consists of seven filters and 1440 individual frames taken with the Near Infrared Camera (NIRCam) on JWST. This mosaic contains 4 pointings that were taken with NIRCam in June of 2022 (CEERS Epoch 1) and 6 pointings that were taken in December 2022 (CEERS Epoch 2). The CEERS NIRCam imaging is all taken in parallel to either MIRI imaging or NIRSpec MSA primary observations. Overview

The Cosmic Evolution Early Release Science Survey (CEERS) covers 100 sq. arcmin of the Extended Groth Strip (EGS) field with JWST NIRCam imaging in parallel to MIRI imaging, NIRSpec and NIRCam wide-field slitless spectroscopy, all in a region supported by a rich set of HST/CANDELS multi-wavelength data. CEERS demonstrates, tests, and validates efficient extragalactic surveys with coordinated, overlapping parallel observations. The observations were obtained in two epochs in Cycle 1. In June, 2022, four pointings of MIRI imaging (F560W, F770W, F1000W, F1280W, F1500W, F1800W, and F2100W) were obtained with NIRCam imaging in parallel (F115W, F150W, F200W, F277W, F356W, F410M, F444W). In December, 2022, six pointings of NIRSpec multi-object spectroscopy with the PRISM (R~100) and medium resolution gratings (G140M/F100LP, G235M/F170LP, G395M/F290LP; R~1000) were obtained with NIRCam imaging in parallel. Four of these pointings were also observed with NIRCam slitless grism spectroscopy (R~1500) with MIRI imaging in parallel.

CEERS enables immediate community science into both extragalactic JWST science drivers “First Light and Reionization” and “The Assembly of Galaxies”, including:

  1. The discovery of 20-80 galaxies at z~9-13, constraining their abundance and physical nature
  2. Deep spectra of >400 galaxies at z>3, including >50 known candidates at 6<z<10, enabling redshifts and constraints on physical conditions of star-formation and black hole growth via line diagnostics
  3. Quantifying the first bulge and disk structures at z>3
  4. Characterizing galaxy mid-IR emission to study dust-obscured star-formation and supermassive black hole growth at z~1-3.

Data Products

NIRCam image files are named according to the following convention:

hlsp_ceers_jwst_nircam_nircam<pointing>_<filt>_v0.5_i2d.fits.gz

where:

  • <pointing> is the pointing number, one of 1, 2, 3 or 6.
    • For pointing 2, there are two sets of observations for F200W and F444W, obtained 1 week apart. The second set ("b") was affected by significant persistence. The team provides mosaics of each observation separately (i.e., "2", "2b") as well as combined together ("2all").
  • <filt> is the filter used, one of "f115w", "f150w", "f200w", "f277w", "f356w", "f410m", "f444w".

Data file types:

_i2d.fits.gz Fully reduced mosaics on pixel scale of 0.03''/pix, aligned across all filters, and each with 13 extensions (explained in README file linked at the top of this page)

MIRI image files are named according to the following convention:

hlsp_ceers_jwst_miri_miri<pointing>_<filt>_v0.5_i2d.fits

where:

  • <pointing> is the pointing number, one of 1, 2, 3 or 6.
  • <filt> is the filter used, one of "f560w", "f770w", "f1000w", "f1280w", "f1500w", "f1800w", "f2100w".

Data file types:

_i2d.fits

Fully reduced mosaics on pixel scale of 0.09''/pix, aligned across all filters, and each with 11 extensions (explained in the README file linked at the top of this page)
