CLASSY Observation Details

The following table contains details of the COS observations for all of the CLASSY targets. Each target has FUV (G130M+G160M) and NUV (G185M/G225M) observations taken over various cenwave settings, from both CLASSY (HST Proposal 15840) and archival data sets.

GFWHM Information

GFWHM (Gaussian Full Width Half Maximum)

When possible, the primary science aperture (PSA)+MIRRORA was used for the COS NUV acquisition images. For bright targets (> 2x10-15 erg/cm2/s/A), MIRRORB was used to attenuate the flux and protect the detector. This results in significantly lower counts in the CLASSY acquisition images and, subsequently, poor spatial light profile fits. For this reason, no GWFHM values are reported in some cases when MIRRORB is used.

Lifetime Position Information

Lifetime Position

The COS Far Ultraviolet (FUV) detector has periodically moved lifetime positions to mitigate the effects of gain sag and extend the longevity of the detector (COS Instrument Handbook; Sec 2.1). Currently, the FUV detector is in the fourth lifetime position (LP4), but will be moving to the fifth lifetime position (LP5) in October 2021. The COS Near Ultraviolet (NUV) detector does not suffer from gain sag, and therefore has not moved position over time. Observations using the NUV detector (e.g., G185M observations) will have a recorded Lifetime Position of N/A.

It should be noted that MIRRORB produces a secondary image that is half the intensity of the primary image and is displaced by 20 pixels (about 0.5 arcsec) in the along-dispersion direction.
