IUE Search for the 21st Century

We are excited to officially release the International Ultraviolet Explorer (IUE) search form as a part of the larger MAST Mission Search interface. IUE joins our other flagship missions — like HST and JWST — on the fast (and stylish!) modernized form.

Try out the MAST Mission Search today!

What's better about this new form?

In addition to keeping feature parity with the previous form, we've added some nice features that are new to this form:

  • When entering a target name, you will see it resolved to coordinates immediately; you'll also see which service was used to look up coordinates.
  • A result count is shown at the bottom: you know instantly whether there are any matching results for your query.
  • A refreshed design, with the ability to toggle between light and dark modes.
  • A one-click "show API query" to convert your search selection to a Python query.

Why are you doing this? I love the old form :(

We're migrating to a new search form because we have no other choice. The old form runs on a legacy server that will need to be retired in the next few years. Additionally, we are unifying our interfaces on a tech stack that does not involve PHP: we can no longer support or update forms that use PHP. We've put a lot of effort into ensuring feature parity and designing a form that is both aesthetically pleasing and fast. We hope you'll give it a try. If you find something that doesn't work how you expect, please send us an email at archive@stsci.edu.

To help you transition, both forms will remain available for the near future.

An example IUE search for observations taken within 3 arcminutes of M101. Results are additionally filtered down to those taken with the LWP camera, low dispersion spectrograph, and the large aperture. This combination produces one valid result, which is displayed at the bottom of the image: 1 of 105,735. Note that the date range is automatically restricted to the dates for which there is IUE data; there is no need to manually set them.
